Ideas to Elevate Date-Night at Home

Whether you’re still not venturing out too far from home, or just want some ideas to make at-home date nights more special - step this way.

One of the biggest takeaways of the pandemic has been to value all the time we get with our loved ones and not take anything for granted. Yet since our kitchen tables have become office central and dining rooms have become classrooms, how do you leave all of that behind for a special, romantic date-night, while still in that same space?

Commit to date night

There will always be excuses, especially during a pandemic when you might be driving each other crazy at home or have little ones to deal with. Commit to making the time. Valuing time together, whatever it might look like, is more important now than ever. Agree on a night of the week or re-evaluate every Sunday when you know the outlook of your week. Put away your phones and gift each other your full presence. Get dressed up if that’s your thing. We may not be spending much time with others in public right now, but that doesn’t mean dressing in your favourite outfit is off the table. Whatever make you feel amazing & brings you joy.

Try something new

First it was banana bread, then sourdough. I personally have been a big fan of make-your-own pizza night. Whatever the latest trend or just your personal taste, try making something from scratch. Either together or diving up the work, there is something so satisfying about trying a new recipe and mastering it with each ingredient. Have fun with it.

It’s all about the tablescape

The art of everything coming together at the table: your food, plates, cutlery, linens, glassware, candles, florals, everything. Edible items as decor. Themed dinners. Colour inspired palettes. It can be anything you want. Surprise surprise this wedding planner loves styling tables, but seriously, the tablescape is what always takes it from regular dinner to wow date night. Start with one element and go from there. Saving those rarely used wine glasses for a “special occasion”? Life is the special occasion. Try mixing patterns and textures. Use what you have and maybe you’ll discover and unexpected new favourite combo!

Get outside

Sure it’s easy to dissolve into the couch and get back to the regular TV cycle, but it’s not going anywhere. We’ve waited so long for this gorgeous summer weather and unfortunately it doesn’t last long here. Get outside. Take a romantic stroll post dinner. Explore a new part of your neighbourhood. Not only is being outdoors a safe way to leave home right now, it’ll do wonders for your mental health and give you time to truly be with each other.
