Modern Rustic Wedding Inspiration // Backyard Styled Shoot in Toronto, ON
Since the world came to a halt and the wedding industry has hit a major pause, I’ve been busy working with clients and vendors as we try to shuffle an entire year worth of weddings, including my own. I’ve also been busy diving into working on my business since I can’t exactly work in it at the moment. This has been such a major source of inspiration for me at a time where I feel so little control over the future. I miss my clients, I miss the rush of weddings and the joy of helping people celebrate one of the most magical days of the lives.
One thing I’ve also missed is the joy of working with my fellow vendors on some creative styled shoots and in general, styling events. On a sunny day a few weeks ago I decided to put together a mini-styled shoot at home and use mostly what I had at home (only the candlesticks were picked up from my mother-in-law'-to-be’s porch!) to create some fresh inspiration and play around with styling at home.
Our kitchen was designed with a “modern French bistro” look in mind, so the chairs, black urns and runner are a regular staple in our home. However, mixing them with a more rustic vibe while pairing with modern marble and minimalist details provided for a fun and stylish combination.
I had this invitation set from the talented Paper & Poste team from the Revel Sessions workshop earlier in March and decided to incorporate the motif into menus for a modern punch to the rustic set up.
And because #quarantine, I’ve started playing around with cakes and this was the first tiered cake I’ve ever made. The naked cake aesthetic added to the rustic feeling (and also, tasted pretty good for a first try if I do say so myself).
I’m no photographer, but it was so fun to play around with these details and set up a modern rustic story to tell right from our own backyard.
I’d love to hear your thoughts below and let me know what other theme I could try next!
